Mosque In Muslim-Dominated US City Commemorates Ali Khamenei’s ‘Martyrdom’
A Michigan cleric openly praised the “martyrdom” of Iran’s slain supreme leader just one day after U.S. and Israeli forces killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a massive strike on Tehran.
Hassan Salamey, a Shiite Muslim cleric, delivered the remarks during a March 1 gathering in Dearborn, Michigan, where attendees commemorated the Iranian strongman who had long overseen one of the world’s top state sponsors of terrorism.
“We are gathered here today to commemorate the martyrdom of the great leader of our time, Sayyid Ali Hussein Khamenei,” Salamey said during the event at the Hadi Institute.
The gathering took place just one day after the United States and Israel carried out coordinated strikes that killed Khamenei and several other senior Iranian leaders, according to The Christian Post.
Video of the memorial circulated online after it was shared by the Middle East Media Research Institute. Footage showed Salamey speaking from a podium positioned in front of a large portrait of Khamenei.
But the cleric did more than mourn the fallen Iranian leader.
During his speech, Salamey launched into a tirade against the United States, claiming the country was founded by “devil-worshipers” on “stolen land” and controlled by “devil-worshiping Freemasons.”
“We might think this was an attack led by Zionist Jews, but the commander of their mission is the very one who was trying to prove that Adam was not worth prostrating to,” Salamey described.

He went further, invoking the Quranic figure Iblis — widely understood in Islamic theology as Satan.
“Iblis is the one behind the scenes, leading their camp; in the shadows, lurking, irking in their symbology, their ideologies, their psychology, their economy, claiming they follow the laws of Moses in Deuteronomy,” Salamey said.
The cleric also argued that American elections make little difference because the country is allegedly controlled by elites.
“Regardless of the stooge we put at the desk of the Oval Office, Republican or Democrats, or even if 1,000 elections come to pass, it is clear that this country was built for and built by the Epstein class and that, just like Palestine, we live on stolen land,” Salamey said.
Another speaker at the event, Usama Abdulghani, praised Khamenei’s death as the culmination of a lifetime devoted to militant struggle.
According to The Christian Post, Abdulghani said the Iranian leader achieved the “ultimate honor” of martyrdom after “86 years of jihad in the way of Allah.”

Abdulghani has previously expressed admiration for the Iranian regime. In 2024, he told followers they should “enjoy” Khamenei “while he is still alive.”
During the weekend memorial, Abdulghani thanked women who brought their families to the gathering.
He said doing so would ensure that “our children will grow up with this culture, where we remember our martyrs and we’re not ashamed of them.”
Dearborn has one of the largest Muslim populations in the United States, and the once-American city is completely riddled with mosques. Longtime American residents, now strangers in their own neighborhoods, have had to deal with loud droning calls to prayer from the structures.

About 55 percent of the city’s roughly 110,000 residents trace their ancestry to the Middle East or North Africa, according to a 2024 report from The Conversation.
While many of the earliest Arab immigrants to the United States were Christian, later waves of migration were shaped by wars and political turmoil across the Middle East, bringing more Muslim refugees to the country. Many original residents of Dearborn have fled the now-unrecognizable area they grew up in, like so many Americans across the country.
