A sizable majority of Americans believe President Biden acted illegally or unethically regarding the business dealings of his son, Hunter.

According to a new AP-NORC poll released this week, 35 percent of voters believe President Biden committed a crime while an additional 33 percent believe he acted unethically. Just 30 percent of respondents believe the president did nothing wrong.

When breaking down the results along party lines, 40 percent of Democrats expressed concern with Biden’s conduct, while 58 percent believe he has done nothing wrong. As for Republicans, 65 percent believe Biden is guilty of a crime while an additional 35 percent believe he acted unethically.

The poll comes as House Republicans have launched an impeachment inquiry into the Biden family’s business dealings. The White House has repeatedly claimed that the president had no knowledge of or involvement with his son’s activities, though this claim has been refuted by IRS whistleblowers, testimony from business partners, financial records and communications from the Biden family.

Respondents to the latest poll were largely unfamiliar with the probe, however, with just 54 percent saying they understand the proceedings. An additional 49 percent of those respondents expressed dissatisfaction with the inquiry.

Support for the inquiry largely broke down along party lines, with 67 percent of Republicans saying they strongly approve or approve. Among Democrats, 73 percent of respondents expressed a negative opinion.
