REPORT: Biden Takes All Of His Cues From One Surprising Cable News Host
A recent report has unveiled that President Joe Biden may be taking his cues from a rather surprising source. The President has developed a keen interest in the insights and analyses of a particular cable news host.
According to reports, Biden is a regular viewer of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” the popular morning show co-hosted by Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski.
“Morning Joe,” known for its “in-depth” political analysis and high-profile interviews, has apparently caught the President’s attention, making it a significant part of his morning routine. The show’s blend of news, opinion, and commentary seems to resonate with the President.
According to an Axios report:
When White House aides appear on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” they’re often booked between 7 and 7:40 a.m. ET. That’s so they’ll reach one crucial and loyal viewer: President Biden.
Biden’s years-long love of MSNBC’s staple morning show affects how the White House runs — and who Biden listens to.
The president often calls co-host Joe Scarborough — a former Republican congressman who’s now a harsh critic of Donald Trump — to get Scarborough’s take on issues and sometimes vent about media coverage, according to people familiar with the relationship.
During the day, Biden has long asked his staff whether they saw a story, a poll, or a segment that had been on the show. He’s included show regulars in off-the-record conversations with policy experts.
Biden pays particular attention to — and has consulted with — “Morning Joe” regulars such as longtime reporter Mike Barnicle, foreign policy expert Richard Haass and historian Jon Meacham, who has assisted on several Biden speeches.
Vice President Kamala Harris is also a viewer of “Morning Joe”: Last month, she and the Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff welcomed Scarborough and his co-host and spouse, Mika Brzezinski, for a dinner at their vice presidential home. Staff members had mentioned that Harris regularly views Fox News, and sometimes catches episodes of “The Five.”
Some staff members have observed that the persistent negative portrayal by Fox News — initially depicting her as an overly influential figure behind Biden, and subsequently as ineffectual, has been a source of distraction for Harris. “It got in her head and caused high anxiety because they were constantly hammering her,” a former aide to Harris disclosed to Axios.
Since “Morning Joe” is frequently watched by Biden, many of his senior advisers also follow the show closely to prepare for any inquiries he might have.
It’s noted by Biden’s team that Steve Ricchetti, a veteran aide to Biden, appears to view a significant portion of the show’s four-hour runtime each morning. He, along with other staff members, frequently mentions the program.
A White House official shared with Axios that several of Biden’s key personnel believe the show provides a more balanced perspective on matters affecting Biden than other news programs and media channels.
More recent presidents have had their media preferences as well, often reflected in their public comments or social media posts. For instance, Donald Trump frequently mentioned watching Fox News and had a well-documented relationship with the network, though he also criticized it at times. Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s media habits, as noted in previous messages, include watching shows like “Morning Joe.”
