President Joe Biden rebuked a reporter on his way to a campaign event for questioning whether he has done enough to secure the border. In response, the Democratic incumbent appeared to lay the blame on Republicans for downplaying a potential border deal.

“I’ve done all I can do! Just give me the power! Give me the border patrol, give me the people, the judges. Give me the people who can stop this!” Biden shouted over the roar of Marine One.

The White House continues to negotiate with Senate Republicans on the contours of a deal that would secure increased funding for Ukraine in exchange for a dramatic crackdown on illegal crossings along the southern border. President Biden recently said he wants the deal done so he can “shut the border down,” a statement that provoked outrage from liberal Democrats who fear he is giving away too much in exchange.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said the terms of the current deal would receive a cool reception in the lower chamber and insisted that the president already has the authority to increase deportations.

“I just heard Speaker Johnson saying it’s absolutely dead, which is what I wanted to hear,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) told CNN Tuesday morning. “As a matter of fact, he said so clearly, ‘I don’t know why people keep asking me about it,’ because as it stands right now, there’s no way forward.”

Before departing, President Biden was also asked for his thoughts on multiple challenges to former President Donald Trump appearing on the 2024 ballot. Biden responded that “it’s fine” for his leading rival to continue his campaign and then “jokes” that a reporter asking him about Trump is the true “threat to democracy.”

The comments represent the first time that President Biden himself has acknowledged that the court system probably won’t be able to slow down President Trump from clinching the Republican Party’s nomination. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre struggled to avoid commenting on a previous decision by the Colorado state Supreme Court which temporarily tossed Trump from the ballot. Since then, the 45th president has won challenges in Maine, Massachusetts, Washington, Nevada, and Rhode Island.
