On Tuesday, Oklahoma’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, Ryan Walters, made a case for teaching the Bible in public schools, calling it a “foundational document” in American history. In an interview with Fox News, Walters expressed concern over what he sees as the injection of ideological bias in education.

While discussing controversial books like “Genderqueer” and “Flamer,” Walters criticized President Joe Biden and the unions for promoting graphic content. “Instead of allowing Biden and the unions to inject their ideology through graphic pornography…we want the Constitution, we want the Bible in our schools where kids understand our nation’s history and what has made this country great.”

When confronted with the question about the Supreme Court’s past ruling against teaching from the Bible in public schools, Walters confirmed his stance, “Yes, sir, we need to take a look at this. The reality is the Bible is a foundational document in our country’s history.”

Walters pointed to the importance of the founding principles of the country such as freedom of religion and the free exercise of religion. He advocated for these principles to be reexamined in the context of contemporary education. He also urged the audience to revisit the words of the nation’s founders and their emphasis on the importance of these freedoms.
