WATCH: ‘Squad’ Democrat Assaults Independent Reporter
A member of the sharp-elbowed Democratic “Squad” has been caught on camera physically assaulting an independent journalist who was attempting to nail down her position on the recent spate of violent vandalisms at Tesla dealerships across the U.S.
Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) was striding through the halls of Congress Tuesday morning when Charles Downs, a correspondent for the media outlet founded by Laura Loomer, turned on his phone camera and began asking whether she stood by her calls last week for a “Tesla Takedown” just days before dealerships were firebombed and vehicles were keyed, hit with Molotov cocktails, or spray painted with graffiti.
“Congresswoman Crockett, you were recently on a Tesla Takedown call calling for violence on the 29th. Would you like to clarify your comments?” the young reporter asks in the video. Though he stood just feet away, Crockett acted as though she didn’t hear him and continued carrying on a conversation with Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN).
“Congresswoman, will you condo-” starts Downs before the attack.
In the clip, Crockett can be seen raising her hand and grabbing at the camera, possibly attempting to take the reporter’s phone or knock it to the floor.
Loomer, a well-known Trump supporter, praised the journalist for standing firm and continuing to ask Crockett for comment after the physical altercation.
“Democrat Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett just physically attacked and assaulted @LoomerUnleashed DC Correspondent [Charles Downs], attempting to violently steal his phone out of his hand after he asked her if she would condemn the violence at @Tesla showrooms that she herself called for on a @Tesla Takedown call to action 5 days ago with violent Democrat activists,” she wrote on X.
“Charles told me Jasmine’s long finger nails scratched his hand, leaving a red mark and indentations from her nails on the top of his hand. It’s clear elected Democrats have embraced violence against Trump supporters and members of the independent media, even in the halls of Congress.”
Loomer ended her post by calling on U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to formally censure Crockett for the assault.

Crockett may become the second Squad lawmaker to be censured since the start of the year. In March, Congressman Al Green (D-TX) was censured following a public outburst during President Trump’s State of the Union. In November, Rep. Ilhan Omar was similarly rebuked for making antisemitic statements during several pro-Palestinian gatherings.
The trend of Squad members behaving boorishly is now in its third year. Perhaps the most infamous example is that of former Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) who was censured in 2023 for pulling a Capitol fire alarm in an attempt to prevent House Republicans from passing pending legislation. He lost his reelection bid to new Democratic Rep. George Latimer (D-NY). Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) was also censured that year for reciting anti-Israel chants that fellow lawmakers said crossed the line into antisemitism.
