Fox Fires Longtime Producer Who Approved ‘Wannabe Dictator’ Biden Chyron
Fox News has kicked a longtime producer to the curb after he was previously reprimanded for approving a chyron calling President Joe Biden a “wannabe dictator” during former President Donald Trump‘s indictment in Miami earlier this week.
Alex McCaskill, a producer who previously worked with former primetime host Tucker Carlson, had a decade-long career at the news network. The Daily Beast confirmed his dismissal with two sources at Fox as well via private Instagram messages with McCaskill, who said the network was “the best place I’ve ever worked” and claimed he asked them “to let me go.”
McCaskill previously served as Carlson’s managing editor on Tucker Carlson Tonight, the network’s premiere program which drew over three million nightly viewers. McCaskill featured prominently in a lawsuit by one of his former colleagues at the defunct show alleging harassment and abusive behavior on the set. Despite already being dressed down for the text graphic which played underneath a speech by President Trump, Fox ultimately decided to part ways with their longtime employee.
During his latest episode of “Tucker on Twitter,” Carlson aired his criticism of his former network for firing someone whom he called “one of the most capable men in the building.”
“First they scolded the producer who put the banner on the screen,” Carlson claimed. “Less than 24 hours after that, he resigned. He had been at Fox for more than a decade. He was considered one of the most capable people in the building. He offered to stay for the customary two weeks, but Fox told him to clear out his desk and leave immediately.”
Later in the segment, Carlson stood by McCaskill’s decision to label Biden a “wannabe dictator” based on the recent arrest of the mother of Ashli Babbit, the veteran killed by Capitol Police during the January 6, 2021 riots, as well as the indictment of Trump.
Fox News had no comment on McCaskill’s firing.
In her lawsuit against the network, Abby Grossberg alleges McCaskill was a ringleader in promoting the misogynistic culture prevalent among Carlson’s staff where politically incorrect jokes were a common occurrence. The former staffer alleges her complaints about sexual harassment by two male producers went unaddressed by McCaskill. In other instances, Grossberg alleges she faced discrimination for her Jewish heritage by McCaskill and felt “constantly gaslit” by his actions.
Now a free agent, McCaskill may join a number of former Fox staffers who fled the network to help Carlson construct his own studio and launch a Twitter show which draws tens of millions of views per episode and has been cited by Twitter owner Elon Musk as an example for other reporters to emulate.
