Biden Seemingly Cracks A Joke In Response To Question On McConnell’s Latest Scare

In a White House press briefing today, President Joe Biden made headlines with a seemingly lighthearted comment in response to a serious question about Senator Mitch McConnell’s recent health scare.

The incident quickly fueled reactions from those criticizing the President for making light of a sensitive situation.

After discussing the recent medical episode experienced by McConnell (R-KY), a reporter asked Joe Biden, “Do you think he’s fit to serve and should run for re-election?”

The President responded by turning to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and asking, “Are you running?” To be fair, the remark came after Biden discussed his friendship with McConnell and stated his concern.

Earlier Wednesday, McConnell, 81, experienced what appeared to be another medical episode during a GOP leadership press conference. In the video, McConnell froze for an extended period. McConnell’s staff quickly intervened, steadying the Senator and wrapping up the press event without providing immediate clarification about his condition.

McConnell also froze up in a press briefing in July.

In March, McConnell was hospitalized and later transferred to a rehabilitation facility after sustaining injuries from a fall during a private dinner at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Washington, D.C. It was later revealed that the injuries were more severe than initially reported, including a concussion and fractured ribs.

McConnell, who has been a pivotal figure in U.S. politics, is currently serving his seventh term in the Senate and is one of the longest-serving Senate Republican leaders in history.
