Billy Busch Wants To Buy Back, Revamp Bud Light Brand After Mulvaney Fiasco
Anheuser-Busch heir Billy Busch told Newsmax that he would love to buy back the once popular Bud Light brand from InBev after sales tanked following a marketing campaign with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney.
Bud Light, which held the top spot in U.S. beer sales for years before being dethroned by Modelo this summer, has cost its parent company more than $27 billion in market cap since April. Even summer holidays — which typically provide a massive sales boost for beer distributors — have been unable to help the cratering brand, forcing Anheuser Busch-InBev has had to lay off hundreds of employees.
“It’s really difficult to see it going downhill at this point, and I don’t know if they can change the tide,” Busch told Newsmax host Bob Sellers. “So, maybe the best thing for them to do, since they’re losing so much money at this point, is to sell it off, and I would love to be able to buy it back and bring it back to the family and make it America’s brand again.”
Busch revealed that he has had “a little bit of a conversation” with Anheuser-Busch InBev about “how me and my family could help the brand,” though he has not heard anything about his proposal to purchase the brand.
When asked how he would go about revitalizing Bud Light, Busch said he would revert back to the company’s founding principles and pursuit of its traditional target markets. “I would get back to the basics,” he said. “Get back to what really built it in the first place. Get back to the great advertising that Anheuser-Busch — when the family was running it — was known for. The Clydesdales were always representative of that — of America — and bringing people together and having fun.”
“It’s a social drink, and it’s inclusive for everybody and I would use that kind of advertising,” he continued. “I would get the pride back with the people that work for the company and for the brands. It’s just terrible to see these people losing jobs now and people on the wholesale side losing jobs because of the low sales, so I would do all those things to bring it back.”

Billy Busch has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the Dylan Mulvaney fiasco, stating that his ancestors would be “rolling in their graves.”
“I think my family — my ancestors would have rolled over in their graves,” Busch told TMZ during a recent interview with TMZ. “They believed that transgender, gays, that sort of thing was all a very personal issue. They loved this country because it is a free country and people are allowed to do what they want, but it was never meant to be on a beer can and never meant to be pushed in people’s faces.”
