BREAKING: McCarthy Vows To Impeach Garland By July 6th
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said that an impeachment inquiry will begin against Attorney General Merrick Garland by July 6 if allegations from IRS whistleblowers turn out to be true.
Last week, testimony from veteran IRS employees who worked on the case for years was made public by House lawmakers. The whistleblowers laid out numerous irregularities or outright corruption surrounding the case, including one instance where Hunter Biden was warned of an impending raid by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lesley Wolf.
Hunter Biden also reportedly threatened his Chinese business partner while demanding payments and warned him that his father, Joe Biden, was in the room while the threat was made. Photos from Hunter’s laptop prove that he was at Joe Biden’s Wilmington property on the same day the message was sent.
Additionally, IRS investigators were told to “stand down” and ordered not to pursue allegations of Biden influence peddling.
In a tweet posted Sunday, McCarthy announced that impeachment proceedings would immediately begin against Merrick Garland if the reports prove accurate. “We need to get to the facts, and that includes reconciling these clear disparities. U.S. Attorney David Weiss must provide answers to the House Judiciary Committee,” McCarthy wrote. “If the whistleblowers’ allegations are true, this will be a significant part of a larger impeachment inquiry into Merrick Garland’s weaponization of DOJ.”
McCarthy reiterated the House GOP’s position during an appearance on Fox and Friends Monday morning. “By July 6, because of the allegations from the IRS, because of the whistleblowers and the DOJ… Garland what he is saying and what David Weiss is saying, privately, are two different things,” McCarthy said. “And if it comes true what the IRS whistleblower is saying, we’re gonna start impeachment inquiries on the attorney general.”
In a press conference Friday, Attorney General Garland claimed that the investigation into Hunter Biden was conducted fairly and thoroughly, pointing to the fact that U.S. Attorney David Weiss was appointed by Former President Trump. Weiss has reportedly given credence to the whistleblowers’ claims and has expressed concerns over the handling of the investigation.
Garland has also stated that any criticisms of his Department of Justice amounts to an “attack” on Democracy.
