WATCH: GOP Congresswoman Responds To Trump VP Rumors: ‘It’s Intriguing’

Recent speculations and media buzz have connected Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) as a potential vice-presidential pick for Donald Trump for his upcoming run. The congresswoman addressed these rumors in a recent interview, stating that while the idea is “intriguing,” she remains committed to her work in South Carolina.

When questioned about her name being on the so-called ‘shortlist’ for Trump’s potential VP pick, especially considering the tumultuous tenure of former Vice President Mike Pence, Rep. Mace responded, “Well, I haven’t been asked yet and my focus is now on South Carolina as it always will be.”

While the Congresswoman’s response did not confirm or deny her interest in the VP spot, Mace’s name has long been attached to Trump’s VP spot. Like many Republicans, Nancy Mace has supported many of Trump’s policies.

Mace explained, “I think it’s intriguing, it’s interesting, and I think it’s a conversation we need to have.” Mace expressed her desire for the Republican Party to prioritize women in higher offices, adding that she wishes to inspire the next generation of girls to aim for the presidency.

She ran for Congress in 2020 in a district that Trump had won in 2016, and her campaign was bolstered by conservative energy around the country during that period.

Mace has represented a group of Republicans who grapple with Trump’s continued influence on the party. While she has embraced many of his policies, she also seems to be advocating for a vision of the GOP that can appeal to a broader base without necessarily alienating Trump’s base.

Despite being overwhelmed with continued legal troubles over recent months, Trump is running away with the GOP nomination. All signs point towards a 2020 rematch against current President Joe Biden, who is currently dipping in approval rating.

While Trump’s former vice president, Mike Pence, is clearly not a candidate to be the VP again, many female names have been synonymous with the role. Names such as Mace, Marjorie Green-Taylor (R-GA), and Kristi Noem (R-SD) have been linked to Trump for some time now.

That said, the Republican Party has been split. A tumultuous House Speaker removal, and re-election, have shown just how transparent the current rifts are within the GOP. Trump’s influence is still strong as ever — and his pick for VP will be a big sign as to which direction the Republican Party will be moving towards in 2024.
