WATCH: Bongino Says Trump Should NOT Post Bail; Here’s Why
Conservative commentator Dan Bongino said Thursday he believes former President Donald Trump would be better off by refusing to post bail when he turns himself in to Georgia authorities later today.
Bongino, a former Secret Service agent, said President Trump is exactly the person for the “crazy times” we live in and that resolving his prosecution in Fulton County requires a “crazy solution” like allowing himself to be jailed and forcing the Secret Service to stand guard.
“Don’t post the bond. You going to jail him? Let’s elect our first political prisoner. Go ahead. Go to jail. Let the Secret Service shut the entire jail down and we’ll see how long you’re willing to keep this charade going. Let ’em put him in jail for a bit,” said Bongino.
“Folks I know it sounds crazy. Let the Secret Service shut that entire floor down because remember the Secret Service has the absolute authority, the supremacy clause. They can declare anything a federally protected area, even a prison cell,” he added.

The idea might just be crazy enough to work, given that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and local police authorities have promised to take Trump’s mugshot and treat him like any other prisoner during processing. The former president has posted on Truth Social about how he is being arrested on behalf of his supporters, a plea that has garnered him an outpouring of support not only from GOP voters but his rivals as well.
Asked during Wednesday’s debate whether they would pardon President Trump if elected, only several said outright they would not do so while others like anti-Trump candidate Chris Christie hemmed and hawed about needing more information before making a decision. The push to pardon Trump from perceived politically-motivated criminal prosecution was started by businessman Vivek Ramaswamy who has endeared himself with the former president’s supporters as he jockeys to support the GOP leader while carving out a second-place position beneath him in the polls.
President Trump faces a number of counts in Georgia related to a conspiracy with 18 individuals including Rudy Giuliani to overturn the results of the 2020 election, allegations that Trump has forcefully denied.
